Discovered Great-Grandma's quilt had 2,000+ tiny stitches in a single square foot

I was sorting through Great-Grandma's quilt we've had in storage for decades, and I got curious about the handiwork. Counted about 2,150 individual stitches in just one square foot of the pattern near the center. Found a little note tucked in the hem from 1942 saying she pieced it during blackout drills in Chicago. Has anyone else found random notes or hidden details in their family textiles?

Oh wow, that note in the hem is such a cool find. "2,000+ tiny stitches in a single square foot" really got me thinking about how much time and care went into those quilts. My grandmother had this old dresser scarf she made in the 1950s, and I found a tiny folded piece of paper hidden in the lace edge with her grocery list from that week. It had stuff like "milk, bread, thread color 42" on it. It's like a little time capsule of her daily life right there in the stitching. Makes you wonder what else is tucked away in other family heirlooms.

Hold up on the "thread color 42" thing. Back in the 50s thread wasn't numbered like paint swatches, it was just called "brown" or "blue" on the spool label. That number was probably the price in cents or a code for her own reference.
