Saw my neighbor use a binder clip to fix his garden hose and it blew my mind

Last weekend in my backyard here in Austin, I saw my neighbor Jim hook a binder clip onto the nozzle of his leaky hose and tighten the rubber washer inside. He just smiled and said, 'Sometimes a dollar store hack beats a trip to Home Depot.' I tried it myself and that hose has been drip-free for 5 days now. Has anyone else borrowed office supplies for outdoor repairs?

Jumping in here real quick because I gotta say the binder clip trick is good but it's really just a temp fix. I tried that exact same thing a couple months ago and it held fine for about a week. Then the rubber washer actually split in half from the pressure and I had a bigger mess than before. What worked better for me was taking a small zip tie and just cinching it around the hose right above the nozzle where the leak was coming from. It's still holding three months later and cost me maybe two cents. Just something to keep an eye on with those binder clips I guess.

Oh man that's a good point about the pressure splitting the washer, I didn't even think of that. The zip tie trick sounds way more solid and I'm definitely stealing that for my own setup.
