Broke a 10mm socket trying to get a seized bolt off my truck last week

I was using a cheap Harbor Freight set and that bolt on the alternator bracket laughed at me for 20 minutes before the socket split clean in half, anyone else just grind down a regular wrench to fit tight spots when you don't have the right tool?

Yeah that sound exactly right, cheap sockets are just there to hold the other tools in the drawer. I've definitely filed down a 13mm wrench to fit a 12mm bolt before, it works but man it kills the knuckles when you slip. Solidarity brother, those seized bolts are just trying to ruin your week.

When the socket split clean in half" is a perfect way to put it. Ive noticed this pattern in life where we keep buying the cheap version of something, knowing full well it will let us down, just because we don't want to spend the money on the real deal upfront. It's the same way people buy those bargain bin work boots that fall apart in three months instead of just saving up for a good pair that lasts years. Eventually you learn the lesson the hard way, usually with a skinned knuckle or a broken tool, that you really do get what you pay for most of the time.
