Door track got so gummed up it threw the whole car out of level
Got called to a building downtown last Wednesday. Six story office. Otis elevator was stopping three inches high on the second floor. Track was caked with dust and grease. Like nobody had cleaned it in years. Had to scrape it out with a putty knife and then hit it with degreaser. Took two hours just to get the door rollers moving smooth again. Real pain. Guy at the front desk said the building manager never schedules track cleaning. How often do you guys push for maintenance on stuff like this?

Dude tell me about it. I had a similar mess in a hotel last spring, track was so bad the door wouldn't even close all the way. Had to chip off this crusty layer of old wax and grime with a flathead screwdriver. Took forever. You ever just wanna hand the building manager a can of cleaner and a rag and say "here, your turn"?

Hit up your local hardware store for a can of WD-40 Specialist Degreaser. Let it soak for 5 minutes then hit that track with a stiff nylon brush. I've had to pull loose change and broken matches out of tracks before, so I keep a cheap putty knife in my bag just for this now.
