That customer who brought in a 1980s VCR last Tuesday
Guy walks in with this old Panasonic VCR, says he needs it working by Friday for a family reunion tape. I told him parts alone would be $80 minimum and he just nodded, no haggling. He sat on my workbench stool for 45 minutes watching me clean the heads, didn't say a word. Has anyone else had customers who just watch you work like that, makes you feel like you're on display?

Is it really that deep though? The guy just sat and watched you work. People do that at mechanic shops all the time, nobody panics. Maybe he was just bored or curious about how the thing works, not trying to put you on a stage. Your mileage may vary but I've had customers stand around for way longer and it never meant anything major. Take this with a grain of salt but it sounds like you might be overthinking a quiet guy's day.

Respectfully disagree. Some things just feel different when you're the one being watched.
