Overheard a guy at the supply house say he never uses torque screwdrivers on breakers
He was picking up a panel in Tacoma and told the counter guy it just slows him down. That's a scary thought, right? I've seen a melted bus bar from a loose connection that probably started that way. How many of you actually torque to spec, or is that guy the norm now?

My neighbor's house fire last year was traced back to a faulty breaker connection. I mean, the torque specs are there for a reason, it's not just busywork. It feels like we're seeing this mindset everywhere now, just skipping steps for speed. Idk, maybe it's just me but that's how small mistakes turn into big problems.

Why is everything about speed now?

Actually, torque specs are mostly about safety, not speed. Getting them wrong can cause things to come loose or overheat.
