Had a customer in a 1970s split-level in Akron tell me 'the breaker only trips when the microwave and toaster run together, so we just don't do that' like it was a normal fix.

My neighbor's dryer outlet melted last Tuesday.

Yikes, that's scary. Everyone jumps to old wiring or a bad plug, but what if it's the new "smart" dryer itself? Some of those have extra heating cycles and sensors that run way more power for way longer. A socket that handled a simple old dryer for years might not handle the constant high load from an eco-mode that actually cooks the lint trap clean.

Look, sometimes a breaker is just doing its job. It's a safety feature, not a sign your house is about to burn down. Those two appliances pull a huge load at the same time on what's probably a 15 amp kitchen circuit. The customer found a simple workaround that prevents an overload. Calling an electrician for a full rewire over a toaster and microwave seems like overkill when just not using them together fixes it.
