Rant: That cute vintage dresser I tried to upcycle fell apart on me

Found this solid wood dresser from the 70s at a thrift store in Portland for $40. Spent two weekends sanding it down, and the whole drawer bottom just crumbled when I lifted it. Has anyone else had older furniture fail like that even when the outside looks fine?

UGH that sucks! @mary614 my friend literally cried when her thrifted cabinet doors fell off after she painted them.

Read something once about how old furniture glues can break down after a few decades, especially in humid climates like Portland. That drawer bottom probably had old hide glue that just lost its grip over time. Hard lesson to learn when you put all that sanding work in first.
