Pro tip: That old ladder I almost tossed makes a great bookshelf

I had this wooden step ladder sitting in my garage for 3 years, and my wife kept saying to throw it out. I finally got tired of looking at it and decided to give it a try as a leaning bookshelf. I just sanded down the rough spots, added a coat of white paint I had leftover from the kitchen, and propped some boards across the steps. Now it holds about 20 paperbacks in the corner of my living room, and it actually looks pretty decent. Has anyone else turned something totally random into shelf space?

It's funny how the stuff we almost toss ends up being the most useful things in our homes. I've noticed that a lot of people seem to have this same pattern where they're always looking for that perfect piece of furniture from a store, but the real magic is in seeing what you already have in a different way. Like, I've seen old suitcases turned into side tables and even a broken skateboard turned into a floating shelf. It makes me wonder if we're all just conditioned to buy things when we could just look at our junk with fresh eyes. Your ladder story is a good reminder that sometimes the most creative solutions are the ones sitting right under our noses in the garage.

Nah @lunawilson sometimes junk is just junk and you're better off tossing it and buying something that actually works.
