That '60s cookbook I grabbed for a buck turned out to be gold
I picked up a beat-up spiral-bound cookbook from 1965 at a library sale for a dollar last month. It looked cheesy with those old photos of jello molds and weird casseroles. But I tried their simple bread recipe and it came out better than anything I've baked in years. No frills, just solid instructions that actually work. Anyone else find a hidden gem in a thrift store cookbook that surprised you?

Used to roll my eyes at those old cookbooks with the scary jello salads and canned meat recipes. But then my grandma gave me her 1950s Betty Crocker binder and I tried the banana bread from it. That thing taught me more about baking than any fancy website ever did. Totally changed my mind about vintage cookbooks being useless.

Wait, didnt Betty Crocker start putting out cookbooks way before the 1950s? I think the first one came out in the 1930s or 40s. @lisa_brown, that banana bread recipe is a classic though, those old binders are gold for the basics right?
