That $15 thrift store box of 'classics' was a trap
Found a cardboard box at Goodwill labeled 'Classic Literature Bundle' for $15. Figured I'd get like 10 good books out of it. Opened it up at home and half of them were Reader's Digest condensed versions from the 80s with the covers falling off. The other half were those old book club editions no one asked for. I ended up donating 8 of the 12 books right back. Anyone else fall for those mystery boxes at thrift stores?

Wait, half of them were Reader's Digest condensed versions? I didn't even know they still made those in the 80s. That's like the ultimate book scam, someone just cleared out their grandma's basement and made fifteen bucks off you. I would have been so mad opening that box and seeing those tiny little bricks of books with the weird fake leather covers. You definitely got played, sorry.

Honestly, the Reader's Digest condensed ones are the absolute worst. I fell for a similar box once and it was packed with those tiny brick books and a bunch of old Reader's Circle hardcovers that looked like they'd been stored in a damp basement. Ended up giving most of them to a used bookstore that barely wanted them. You got totally burned on that $15.
