Spent 4 hours fixing a corner bead that should have taken 20 minutes

I was working on a small bathroom remodel last Tuesday, just a basic corner bead install. The first bead went on fine, but the second one kept warping no matter how I nailed it. After three tries and a bunch of cursing, I realized the stud behind it was bowed out almost a quarter inch. Had to shim it and start over, turned a quick job into an afternoon. Anyone else ever fight a corner bead for way too long before finding the real problem?

Did your friend try using trim screws instead of nails?

Nah man, I gotta push back on the trim screw thing. In my experience nails actually hold way better over time because they let the wood move with the seasons. Trim screws might seem tighter at first but they can snap or back out when the humidity changes, especially on exterior stuff. I've seen too many trim jobs where the screws popped the heads right through the MDF or split the piece. Plus if you ever gotta pull a jammed piece off, nails just pop out quick with a pry bar while screws leave you fighting with the driver. Not saying screws never have their place but nails are the way to go for most base and casing work.
