Everyone swears by closed loop cooling but I think it's overhyped for river jobs
Been running on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge for 8 years now and I keep hearing guys at the shop say closed loop is the only way to go. But on a river with that much silt and current, I've seen closed loop systems clog up in less than 3 hours of heavy digging. Open loop with a good screen setup has never let me down - you just gotta watch your water intake like a hawk. I swapped back to open loop two seasons ago and my pump seals are lasting almost twice as long. Anyone else find closed loop causes more headaches than it fixes on silty rivers?

Three hours of digging and you're already clogged? That's insane, man.

Funny thing about that kind of clogging, @colemiller... most people don't realize it's not just dirt packing up. Sometimes it's a layer of old clay or roots you never even saw coming, and three hours of digging just stirs it all up. Had a buddy hit a buried drainage tile once that nobody knew was there, same kind of situation.
