The big-box store 'free measuring' is a trap, learned the hard way

Went to the Home Depot in Akron last Saturday to get new countertops. They offered free measurement, so I took it up. The guy came out, measured, and I ordered 4 slabs based on his numbers. Turns out his 'measurement' ignored a 3-inch lip on my old backsplash. Got the slabs delivered, they're too short by a foot total. Now I'm stuck with $380 of granite I can't return. Anyone else had their in-store measuring service botch a project?

Ha! Come on now. The measurement guy brings a laser and a clipboard, he's not a mind reader. You saw your own kitchen before he got there. Did you even look at the slab layout before you signed off on the order? A 3 inch lip on a backsplash is not some hidden secret, it's right there on the wall. Everyone wants to blame the free service but nobody wants to own the part where they approved the final numbers. If the guy measured wrong, you should have caught it when he wrote down the dimensions. That's on you, not on Home Depot. And honestly, $380 for a lesson about double checking your own project plans is pretty cheap compared to what a full redo would've cost you.
