Shoutout to the guy who told me to try a French cleat tool wall

I finally got tired of digging through three different toolboxes to find a wrench or screwdriver when I was halfway up a ladder. A buddy from my local hardware store in Dayton mentioned a French cleat system. I figured it was just another fancy Pinterest project. But last weekend I cut a bunch of 2x4s into strips and mounted them across my garage wall. Now all my most used tools are hanging right there. I can grab a hammer in two seconds flat. The whole thing cost me about 30 bucks and one afternoon. Has anyone else tried this setup and found a way to hang heavier stuff like a drill without it wobbling?

Did you screw the cleats into studs or just drywall?

Man... I definitely went the drywall route and woke up to a whole row of wrenches on the floor the next morning. Live and learn, right? Studs are the way to go if you want things to actually stay put. For heavier stuff like a drill, I just doubled up the cleat thickness on the tool side so it bites deeper into the wall cleat, hasn't fallen yet.
