My bathroom fan was so loud I ignored it for 6 months, then I actually cleaned it

I live in a small house in Dallas and the bathroom fan always sounded like a lawnmower starting up. I just got used to it and figured it was old and broken. Last weekend I finally took the cover off and pulled out the fan unit. There was a solid half inch of dust and lint caked on the blades and motor. I spent 20 minutes with a vacuum and a brush cleaning everything out. Now it runs whisper quiet and actually moves air. I feel stupid for waiting so long. Has anyone else found crazy buildup in theirs after ignoring it?

Right? Same thing happened to me. Pulled the cover off mine after living with the racket for a year and there was basically a felt pad of dust glued to the motor. Took a butter knife and shop vac to it and now it's like a different appliance. Felt like a complete moron for not doing it sooner.

That's not really "ignoring" it though, you just never looked.
