Discovered a cheap fix for squeaky stairs using baby powder

My stairs in the hallway were squeaking like crazy for months. I tried screwing the treads down but it didn't help. Then I read online to dust baby powder between the gaps where the wood rubs together. It worked after one application and cost me $3 at Walmart. Has anyone else found a weird fix like this for wood floors?

Does it come back after a while or is it a one time fix? I've heard graphite powder works too but baby powder seems way cheaper. Might try this on my creaky floorboards tonight.

Yeah @hugog43, I did the baby powder trick on my stairs last year and it came back after about 6 months. But the second time I just dumped a bunch more in and it's been quiet for almost a year now. If you go heavy on the cracks, it should buy you at least a few months before you have to reapply. Definitely cheaper than graphite, and it doesn't make a mess like powder can.
