Appreciation post: my $15 garage shelf brackets fixed the leaning pile of doom
For two years I kept stacking paint cans and old tool boxes on a flimsy wire shelf in my garage, and every time I opened the door something would roll off. Last weekend I finally bought a set of heavy duty steel brackets from the local hardware store in Akron for $15 and bolted them straight into the studs with proper lag screws. The difference is night and day, the shelf barely moves now even when I toss a 50 pound bag of salt on it. I also added a small lip on the front edge so nothing slides off when I'm grabbing stuff in a hurry. Anyone else have a garage storage spot that turned into a hazard zone before you fixed it with simple hardware?

Honestly the front lip is the real genius move here. I did the same thing after a pry bar slid off and almost took out my ankle, now I've got a piece of angle iron screwed on the edge and I can just shove stuff around without worrying about shrapnel. Bet you could also throw a couple of those cheap magnetic strips under the shelf for screwdrivers and bits, that's been a game changer for me.
