Spent 3 hours caulking a bathtub wrong before my wife pointed it out

I was smoothing the bead with my finger. Thought I was doing great. Then my wife watches me for a minute and goes "you know you're supposed to wet your finger first, right?" Looked at the mess I made. All those bumps and lumps. Had to scrape the whole thing off and start over. Anyone else have a simple trick they missed for years?

Oh I feel that. I spent a whole afternoon one time trying to fix a squeaky door with WD40 before my buddy told me you need to use the straw thingy that comes with the can.

@riverknight actually the straw thing is for the spray nozzle, not the can itself. You pop off the little red tab on top and flip it 180 degrees to turn on the spray. Common mistake though.

Yeah @riverknight once you learn that trick it makes a world of difference. Just be careful not to lose the little red tab, that thing pops off way too easy and then you're stuck shaking the can like a crazy person trying to get it to spray.
