Vent: Took me 2 years to realize I was painting walls wrong

I've been painting rooms in my house since I bought it in 2020. Always did the edges first with a brush then rolled the middle. Last weekend my neighbor came over and watched me for a minute. He said 'you know you're supposed to roll first and cut in after, right?' Cut in paint dries faster so you get lap marks if you do it first. I felt pretty dumb but the finish on my living room wall came out way smoother. Anybody else make simple mistakes like this that took forever to catch?

Honestly, that's exactly the kind of thing that drives me nuts because you think you're doing it right the whole time. I spent a whole summer painting my kitchen cabinets with a foam roller and wondered why they looked so bumpy, turns out you're supposed to use a special cabinet roller or a brush. Ngl, I was so mad at myself after someone told me. Your neighbor caught it early though, could've been years of bad walls before you figured it out. It's wild how such a tiny switch in order makes the whole job look better.

My neighbor told me the same thing after I painted my whole bathroom backwards. I just nodded and said 'cool thanks' while internally screaming for an hour.
