Hot take: I tried using leftover laminate flooring as a backsplash and it actually worked

I had about 10 planks from a kitchen floor job and glued them up behind the sink, but the steam from my kettle made the edges peel after a month. Anyone know a good waterproof adhesive for that kind of thing?

Laminate really isn't made for wet areas at all, the core is basically sawdust and glue. Even with a better adhesive, the material itself will swell from steam over time. Maybe a proper tile adhesive would hold it, but you're fighting the product's limits. Might be better to just use it for a craft project instead.

Yeah ben138 is totally right about the core being like sawdust, that stuff just drinks up moisture. I tried something similar with leftover planks on a bathroom accent wall and it was a total mess after a few steamy showers, the edges got all wavy. Even the best glue in the world won't stop the material itself from falling apart when it gets damp. You're better off using those pieces for something like a garage shelf or a kid's playhouse.
