Heard a guy at the hardware store say 'caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain't' and it finally clicked for me.

Ugh, that saying is just an excuse for bad work. Covering up mistakes with caulk is lazy and it always fails later. Real skill is about doing it right the first time.

My old contractor called caulk the liar's tool, and he wasn't wrong.
