Just realized the hostel wifi in Medellin was ruining my client calls
I was staying at a hostel in Medellin last month and kept dropping calls with a client in London. I blamed my laptop and almost bought a new one. Then a guy in the dorm told me the router was in the basement and everyone on the third floor got a bad signal. I moved to a cafe with fiber and my calls stopped cutting out. Now I always ask for a speed test before I book a place for more than a week. My rule is 20 mbps upload minimum or I keep looking. Has anyone else had a place with great reviews but terrible wifi?
That hostel wifi issue sounds so annoying, especially when you're losing money on client calls. I've booked places with hundreds of good reviews and still ended up with wifi that barely loaded a page. Now I just message the host and ask for an upload speed test before I pay, and most of them are happy to send a screenshot.
