Just learned I was torquing head bolts wrong for years

Three weeks ago I had a 6.7 Powerstroke come in with a blown head gasket. I did my usual torque sequence and the guy stopped me. He pointed out I was going by the old spec and not checking the updated TSB. Turns out I had been under-torquing them by 15 ft-lbs on these newer engines since 2020. Anyone else run into a spec change that caught you off guard?

Beth said it exactly right about things quietly getting updated. Like on Cummins engines they changed the main bearing torque spec twice in three years and nobody sent out a memo or anything. You just have to hope you catch it in the service manual update or hear it from another tech. I had a buddy who ruined a set of rods because he was using the old spec from 2019 on a 2021 build. The frustrating part is these changes get buried in TSBs that aren't always easy to find if you're not actively looking for them.

So many things just quietly get updated without anyone saying anything.
