I finally hit 10,000 hours on my old Cummins ISX last Tuesday

Rolled over to 10,000 engine hours on a 2015 Kenworth T680 I've been working on for a fleet in Houston. That's about 350k miles of heavy haul work without a rebuild. The owner wanted to swap it out but I told him compression was still solid at 380 psi across all six. Has anyone else seen these ISX motors run that long before needing an inframe?

Honestly I used to think the ISX was a total crapshoot past 8,000 hours. I had a buddy who swore by them but I figured he was just lucky. But then I saw a similar truck come through our shop with 9,500 hours and it still had factory liners and rings. The compression numbers you're getting at 380 psi across the board are really impressive for that kind of mileage. My experience with heavy haul has taught me that oil analysis is the real tell though. If you're keeping the oil clean and not running it hot these motors can surprise you. Your mileage may vary but seeing this definitely changed my opinion on what the ISX can actually handle before a rebuild.

Yeah I gotta agree with @faith_price7 on the oil analysis thing. Thats the real tell on these motors. I've seen ISX trucks look perfect on paper at 8k hours and then blow a rod right after. But if you're getting 380 across all six at 10k hours and your oil samples are coming back clean with no copper or iron spikes you're probably fine for a while longer. The heavy haul cycles actually help these motors since they spend more time loaded and less time idling. I had a customer in Arkansas run one to 12,500 hours before it started losing compression on number 4. That said keep an eye on your coolant additives too. I've seen guys neglect the SCA levels and that causes liner pitting that sneaks up on you. Your mileage may vary but if you're willing to do the preventative stuff the ISX can absolutely go that long.
