That whole week my Zune decided to just give up on life

I was three songs into a road trip to visit my sister in Portland when my old Zune 30 just froze on a pixelated album cover. Tried the hold button trick and the battery pull like 5 times but it's completely bricked now. Has anyone found a way to resurrect these things or am I just stuck with a fancy paperweight?

Have you tried hooking it up to a computer and seeing if the PC can still detect it at all? I fixed a Zune 30 last year that did the exact same thing, it just needed a hard reset through the recovery menu. Hold the back button and the up button at the same time for 10 seconds, then plug it into a wall charger and let it sit for an hour. If the screen stays black, it could be the hard drive cable came loose inside, that happened to mine after a bumpy drive.

...and like that's just how things go with tech sometimes, right? It's like these gadgets have a sixth sense for the worst possible moment to die. I've noticed it with phones too, the battery always gives out right when you need directions or to make an important call. Maybe it's the universe telling us we rely too much on these things, but honestly it just feels like bad luck. Have you tried the hold button trick while it's plugged into a computer? Sometimes the computer can still see it even if the screen is dead.
