Hit 500 saved songs on my Zune and it reset everything
I had this old Zune 30 that survived since 2007, and last week I finally got it to 500 saved tracks after months of using a dead laptop to load files through a USB adapter. The moment the counter flipped to 500, the whole library wiped itself back to factory reset, all my playlists gone. I spent 4 hours rebuilding it with lower bitrate files from an old hard drive, and honestly, that reset made me realize I was hoarding songs I never listened to anyway. Has anyone else had a storage cap or file limit mess up their player like that, or is my Zune just cooked for good?

...and that exact thing happened to my old 30 gig back in 2010, right after I hit like 450 songs. Turns out the Zune has a known quirk where the library gets corrupted if you add files too fast or the battery dies mid-sync. I fixed mine by doing a hard reset, then loading songs in batches of 50 and letting it fully index between each batch. Took forever but it never wiped again after that. Also, I stopped using the dead laptop thing and just copied files directly from the hard drive, which helped a lot. Your player probably ain't cooked, but those old spinning drives are fragile, so back up that library to something else before you rebuild again.

Batching them in 50s makes sense, but ever think the counter itself is the trigger? Like the firmware has a hard floor at 500 and treats it as a full wipe signal.
