Which mall camera setup worked better: phone or old DSLR?

I hit up the dead Forest Mall in Wisconsin last Saturday and tried shooting with my phone for half the trip and my old Canon T3i for the other half. The phone was faster for quick shots, but the DSLR caught way more detail in the dark food court corner where the light was awful. Anyone else found a clear winner between convenience and quality on these mall runs?

DUDE that's a solid comparison. I tried something similar at the old Kmart by my place and my phone actually died halfway through because the battery got drained from the GPS app I forgot to close. So I was stuck with this beat up Nikon D40 from like 2009 that barely holds a charge. The photos came out looking kind of grainy and washed out but there's this weird CHARM to them that my phone just can't match. It's like the camera's flaws added this extra layer of decay to the whole experience and I honestly like those shots more now than the crisp ones.

Oh man, wait - you actually own a D40? @the_evan I thought those things were extinct by now. That grainy look is honestly the whole vibe for abandoned places though.
