The old TI-83 screen taught me something about progress

I pulled my graphing calculator out of a box last weekend to help my nephew with algebra, and noticed the screen contrast has faded way more than I ever realized after 15 years of use. My phone does the same math in a second, but the slow, dim display made me actually slow down and check each step instead of just trusting the answer. Has anyone else gone back to an old device and found it made them think differently than the new version does?

I heard a tech writer on a podcast talking about how older tech forces you to learn the why instead of just the what, and that stuck with me. Your calculator is a perfect example, the faded screen makes you double check your work because you cant just trust the display. Maybe the slowness isnt a flaw, its a feature that keeps your brain engaged.
