Picked an old ThinkPad X220 over a new Chromebook for writing

Had to choose between a 2012 ThinkPad X220 and a brand new $250 Chromebook for my writing setup. Went with the X220. Got it for $60 on eBay. Thing has a great keyboard and runs Linux Mint perfectly. Tracks my novel word count without lag. Anybody else stick with older laptops for focused work?

$60 for a laptop that still works and a Chromebook that'll feel like a toy in a year? Yeah, I think you made the right call. Nothing says "serious writer" like a machine that weighs more than your novel.

Weighs more than your novel is definitely accurate lol. The X220 is like 3.5 pounds with the battery sticking out the back.
