My 2004 iBook almost caught fire in a coffee shop last Tuesday
I was at the Daily Grind on 5th Ave charging my old iBook G4 when I smelled something like burnt plastic. Looked down and the MagSafe connector was literally smoking, the rubber had melted around the tip. I yanked the cord and checked the battery, it was swollen like a pillow. Turns out the charger had a cracked wire that was arcing for weeks before I noticed. Anyone else still running these old bricks and using a surge protector or should I just retire it for good?
