That 'free' USB drive from the conference was a trap
Grabbed one at a vendor booth in Chicago last month, plugged it in out of curiosity, and my whole system bogged down within an hour. Turns out it had a keylogger preloaded, and the IT guy at the office said they see this all the time with promotional swag. Who else is still plugging random drives into work laptops without thinking twice?
Is it possible the drive was already compromised before the vendor even got it, since these cheap promo drives are often sourced from shady factories? Tbh, I've grabbed a few over the years and never had an issue, but I always scan them with my own tool before opening anything.
