Showerthought: the guy next to me at the DMV said his whole life got hacked from a phone charger
I was sitting at the DMV in Sacramento waiting for my number to get called and this older guy next to me started talking about how his email and bank got broken into about 4 months ago. He said he plugged his phone into one of those free charging stations at the airport and that was the only weird thing he did all trip. I always thought those public USB ports were no big deal, but it turns out some of them can push data both ways, not just power. So now I carry a little USB data blocker thing that cost me $9 on Amazon, it just sits between the cable and the port and only lets power through. Also started using my own wall plug whenever I can find an outlet instead. Curious if anyone here has actually seen a sketchy charging port in the wild, or am I just being paranoid now.
