Last Tuesday was a nightmare after I skipped a firmware update
I put off updating my router's firmware for like 2 months because I figured it wasn't a big deal. Then last Tuesday morning, my smart locks started acting up and my Nest cam went offline. Turns out there was a known vulnerability in the old version, and someone in my neighborhood was scanning for those exact devices. Took me 4 hours at 2am to factory reset everything and patch it. Does anyone else just ignore those update popups until something breaks?
Used to be the same way, honestly thought those popups were just the company being annoying. Then my dad's whole home network got hit with ransomware because he ignored the same warnings for months. Watching him lose years of family photos over something I couldve fixed in 10 minutes flipped my mindset completely. Now I patch everything the day it drops, even my smart fridge, because 10 minutes beats a 4am factory reset any day.
