I chose a password manager over my memory palace, and my memory lost badly
Two years ago I had 61 different logins and I kept them all in my head using a system of patterns. I thought I was clever, until a site I stopped using in 2021 got hit and I couldn't remember if that same pattern was on my bank. I finally sat down and picked between a paid manager for $36 a year or a free open source one I had to set up myself. I went with the paid one, mostly out of laziness, and it generated a 20 character random password for every single account in one afternoon. Six weeks later my email got flagged in a credential stuffing list and nothing worked because every login was unique. If you are still reusing two or three passwords across 40 sites, what is actually stopping you from switching?
