A guy at the library in Dayton told me my password setup was backwards, and I finally fixed it
I was at the Dayton library on a Tuesday helping my dad set up online banking when the IT volunteer overheard me tell him to just add a 1 to the end of his old password. He pulled me aside and said that's the first thing any cracking tool tries, and that length beats weird characters every time. So I switched us both to passphrases like "purpleotterbikeshed42" and started using a password manager for the 60-plus logins I had reused across sites. Six weeks later I got a notice that an old shopping account of mine had been in a breach, and because that password was unique it was a non-event. Has anyone had luck getting older relatives to actually use a manager, or do you just set it up for them and hope?
