Googled 'how often do people actually say thank you' and the number blew my mind

I was bored during a slow shift at the coffee shop and looked up a stat that says only about 1 in 4 customers actually say please or thank you when ordering. Has anyone else noticed this weird ratio or is it just my location?

Are you keeping track yourself, or is this something you just noticed offhand?

A buddy of mine works at a diner down the road and he keeps a little tally in his head for fun. He told me the other day it's about 3 out of 10 people that say please or thank you, which is pretty close to that stat you found. The_kim might be onto something though, because my buddy says the lunch rush is way worse than the morning crowd for rudeness. People just mumble their order and walk off like you're a vending machine or something. It's not just your spot, seems like a lot of folks forget their manners when they're hungry.
