Question about the actual cost of a full custom build

I just added up the parts for my first 65% build and was shocked to find the total was over $450, which is way more than I expected after seeing so many 'budget' guides online.

Honestly those budget guides often leave out a ton of small but pricey parts.

Yeah but what kind of parts are we talking about? I see this a lot but the guides I follow always list the power supply, case fans, and thermal paste. The real budget killer is usually the operating system if you need Windows, or extra cables you didn't know you needed. Maybe we're just reading different guides.

Forget the guides, they always miss the little stuff. I built my last rig and ended up needing a fan splitter cable, extra SATA cables, and a different displayport cable than what came with the monitor. Those $10-$20 items add up fast.
