A guy at a rest stop in Amarillo told me he makes more from 900 true fans than 40k followers
I was grabbing a sandwich at a truck stop outside Amarillo and got to talking with this younger guy who runs a woodworking channel. He said he stopped chasing big numbers a while back and just focused on about 900 people who actually buy his plans and watch every video. He pulled up his phone and showed me his numbers, and honestly the smaller group brought in more each month than when he had 40,000 followers and almost no sales. I've been chewing on that for a week now. It seems like the folks who do okay treat it less like a popularity contest and more like running a small business where you know your customers. I don't make content myself, but it got me wondering if the big follower counts everyone brags about are mostly for show. Curious if anyone here has seen the same thing, where going smaller actually paid better.
