My writing prof in college said to never use flashbacks. I just sold a story that's one long flashback.

My uncle always said you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but his new puppy proved him wrong.

A writing professor actually said that? They gave you a rule with no room to bend it. That's wild. My high school teacher told us flashbacks were a cheap trick, but then we read classics full of them. Selling a story that breaks their rule must feel pretty good.
