Rant: I saw something strange at the old missile silo museum in Kansas
I took a trip out to the Minuteman missile museum in Kansas last month, the one that's an actual decommissioned silo. The tour guide was really into his job, showing us the old launch control panel and everything. But then he pointed out this thick, heavy-duty power cable running along the ceiling that he said was a 'cold war relic' for backup power. Thing is, it looked brand new, like the insulation was way too clean and modern for something from the 60s. I asked him about it after the tour, and he got kind of flustered and said the maintenance crew must have replaced a section. But the whole run looked fresh, not just a patch. It got me thinking... what are they really powering down there now? Has anyone else visited a place like that and noticed details that just don't add up with the official story?

Actually, that museum is in South Dakota, not Kansas. The Kansas one is a different site, more of a training facility. Those power cables do get replaced though, the whole system needs to meet modern electrical codes for public safety. They probably just ran a whole new line during the last big renovation.

The South Dakota location had to replace all their underground conduit in 2018. Water damage from an old storm drain wrecked the original lines. Total nightmare project but the new setup is way safer.

Wow, I always figured those old lines were built to last forever. Hearing they had to dig up and replace EVERYTHING because of some water damage is crazy. Makes total sense to do it right though, you can't mess around with safety in a public place. That new setup must be a huge relief.
