TIL the guy on my crew has been adding water to the mix for 3 years and nobody caught it
I was watching this kid mix a batch on a driveway pour in Fresno and he kept splashing in extra water because it looked too dry to him. The slump was 4 inches but he was pouring it at like 7, and I could see the cream bleeding before we even got the float on it. I pulled him aside and asked where he learned that, and he said the guy who trained him always told him to "make it workable." Now I'm wondering how many of our slabs from the past couple years have that weak finish on top. Anybody else deal with a guy who thinks more water makes it easier to finish?
Man that is wild, three years of extra water going in and nobody said a word? That cream bleeding tells you everything, the top is gonna dust off and the strength is gone no matter how pretty it looks. Kid probably cost you real money on every pour and thought he was helping the whole time.
