Hot take: for 2 years I was wiping thermal paste with a dry paper towel until a build in Akron went sideways
Last week I was repasting a client's i5 in Akron and it kept hitting 95C under load, so I finally looked it up and learned you're supposed to use 90% isopropyl and a coffee filter, not a dry towel that just smears it around. Now I'm stuck on the fence about whether a pea-sized dot or a thin spread is actually right, since half the techs I know swear by each one. What's your go-to method for paste, and did anyone else figure this out way later than they should have?
