Update: a dive supervisor in Galveston ripped into my hose management on a 60 foot job
He said one looping knot in my umbilical could kill me if the current spun me, so now I coil in big loose figure eights on deck instead of tight wraps, and I want to know if anyone else got taught this the hard way or if it was just me.
A single loop in your umbilical won't do jack on a 60 foot job, that supervisor was just covering his own butt in case anything went wrong later. Guys have been doing tight wraps for years without dying, one knot doesn't magically turn into a noose.
