Got my umbilical tangled in a prop while working the St. Johns River last Tuesday
I was doing a bridge inspection about 10 feet down and this guy in a jon boat came cruising by way too close. His prop sucked my umbilical right in and spun me around like a top before the line parted. I surfaced quick and gave him an earful but he just waved and putted off. Anyone else had a near miss with boat traffic and have tips for avoiding it besides shouting?

Blame the diver for not having a proper lookout and a floatline to keep gear out of prop paths.

Last week I was wiring up a new dock light on the intracoastal and some yahoo in a center console came flying by about 15 feet from me. His wake threw me into the piling and I banged my knee so bad it swelled up like a grapefruit. A guy on shore yelled at him to slow down and he just flipped him off and gunned it. People in boats just don't get it sometimes.
