Walked into my old comic shop in Portland and the vibe is totally different now

It's all movie posters and Funko Pops, the longboxes of back issues are shoved in a corner. When did collecting become more about merch than the actual books?

My buddy's cafe in Portland got hit with a 40% increase. He had to redo his whole menu, adding higher-end pastries and a small dinner service to make up for it. It sucked, but focusing on what regulars would pay extra for saved him. You gotta find that one thing people can't get anywhere else and charge a bit more for it now.
