Rant: My cousin told me gatekeeping comic knowledge is actually hurting the hobby
He said 'If someone only knows the movies, that's still a fan, just let them enjoy it.' That hit different coming from a guy with a full longbox collection. Anyone else get annoyed by the 'real fan' debates?

Totally agree with your cousin. That gatekeeping stuff is so exhausting, it makes the whole hobby feel unwelcoming. I've seen people get torn apart online just for liking a popular character or starting with a show. It's comics, not a private club.

Your cousin is totally right. I used to be the guy checking if people read certain story arcs, and it was a bad look. What's the point of loving these characters if we push people away for how they found them? Christopher67 nailed it about making the hobby feel unwelcoming. That gatekeeping just makes everyone look bad, and it keeps good stories from finding new readers. Someone starting with a movie might pick up a comic because of it, and that's only a good thing.
