Changed my mind on modern comics after seeing that Batman '89 series

Honestly I used to think new comic runs were all just reboots and cash grabs, but I picked up the Batman '89 series at my local shop last month and the art style hooked me right away. Over three weeks of reading, I saw how the writer actually respected the old movie while building something fresh, which totally flipped my view. Has anyone else had a specific series change their stance on modern comics?

nah man, most modern comics are still just lazy nostalgia bait.

Did you try digging into something like the current TMNT run? @evan_anderson, I get the skepticism about nostalgia bait, but the trick is finding the books where the creators actually add to the lore instead of just milking it. Start with a miniseries that has a single writer and artist team, those usually stay solid from start to finish.
