Switched from a French press to a pour over cone about 2 months ago

I used to just eyeball my coffee grounds in the French press and hope for the best. Got tired of sludge at the bottom of my cup every morning. My buddy Mike in Portland told me to try a simple plastic V60 and a gooseneck kettle from Goodwill. Now I actually weigh out 18 grams of beans and time my pour over 3 minutes. Has anyone else bothered with a scale or is that overkill?

Do you actually taste the difference from weighing it out, or just feels more legit?

Ngl that is absolutely not overkill, that's just science with extra steps.
