Rant: the barista at Cafe Grumpy on 7th Ave remade my pour over with a different bean because the first one tasted flat
I sat at the counter and she asked what I was tasting, and I said it was kinda dull and papery. Instead of just shrugging, she grabbed a different Ethiopian lot and brewed it right there in front of me, saying the first batch was probably roasted 6 weeks back. That one cup changed how I buy beans, and now I always ask for the roast date. Does anyone else have a shop that actually pushes back on you like that?
Oh man, I read something about this once, how coffee actually peaks like 4 to 14 days after roasting and then just fades. Six weeks is pretty old for a pour over, so she probably saved that cup. Wish more shops would just say something instead of letting you drink sad coffee.
